Report: OnLive valued at over a billion dollars

We knew the technology powering the compression and streaming capabilities of OnLive was actually the work of dark and ancient sorcery, but we never would have guessed how profitable said sorcery actually is. According to a report fromVenture Beat, a regulatory filing issued in May seems to indicate that the company's 342 million shares can be valued at around $1.1 billion.

If this sounds like the kind of moneypie you'd like to enjoy a slice of, the filing values some 8 million new shares created in May at $7.50 a piece. You could totally get down on one of those, then sit back, and just watch the finances roll in. We're pretty sure that's how shares work. You get them, and then the company shares its money with you.
Report: OnLive valued at over a billion dollars originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 05 Aug 2010 13:55:00 EST.
LittleBigPlanet 2 'Adventure' trailer fits like a Power Glove

There is plenty for LittleBigPlanet fans to soak up in the newest trailer for the customizable platformer's upcoming sequel. The most tantalizing clips offer a look at some of the new tools Sackboy will have at his disposal, including the Grappling Hook, Creatinator (used as a Shadow Complex-esque Foam Gun in this particular video) and the Power Gloves, which appear to allow Sackboy to lift enemies and objects and toss them at other things, Super Mario Bros. 2 style.

The PlayStation.Blog post revealing the trailer also gives a few hints about the game's plot, which sees Sackboy protecting "Craftworld" from the nefarious, vacuum cleaner-shaped Negativatron in an "epic adventure through time and space." Check out the video below the jump, and, as is the case with most of Media Molecule's marketing videos, get your tapping toe ready for a workout.
Continue reading LittleBigPlanet 2 'Adventure' trailer fits like a Power Glove

LittleBigPlanet 2 'Adventure' trailer fits like a Power Glove originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 05 Aug 2010 13:25:00 EST.
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood beta leaping to PSN Sept. 13

You've only got a little bit over a month to get ready for the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood multiplayer beta. Ubisoft has announced a start date of September 13 -- and remember, it's exclusive to PS3. The only way to get access to the beta in North America (for now, at least) is by pre-ordering the game at your local GameStop.

There are apparently only a limited number of slots available in the beta, so tokens will be doled out to customers on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you already pre-ordered, you can bring your receipt to a GameStop starting on August 9 for entry. The beta entry process for those who live on, say, any other continent in the world is still unknown, but you can be sure that we've asked Ubisoft for more info.
Continue reading Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood beta leaping to PSN Sept. 13

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood beta leaping to PSN Sept. 13 originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 05 Aug 2010 12:50:00 EST.
Google is continuing to forge ahead with its move into social gaming, and today made a new acquisition towards that goal. TechCrunch reports that Google has made an agreement to buy the social gaming company Slide for $182 million, to be formally announced tomorrow. It is unknown whether Slide founder Max Levchin will be joining Google or exiting with the money.

Slide is responsible for applications like SuperPoke!, SuperPoke! Pets, Top Fish, SuperPocus Academy of Magic, and the Facebook application FunSpace. Including Google's deal with Farmville creator Zynga, the company has spent around $300 million so far investing it its social gaming plan. Google has deep pockets, and sources claim this isn't the last move the company plans to make. We have to wonder just how much more the it will be investing to go head-to-head with the social media juggernaut that is Facebook.

Kinect-enabled XBL Indie Games still up in the air

Would-be Kinect Indie Game developers out there should prepare for some bad news. Speaking to Digital Spy, a Microsoft spokesman stated that currently "only developers with established contracts with Microsoft" are allowed to develop projects for Kinect. Only those developers that Microsoft has "partnered with for the launch" will release Kinect games at first.

That's not to say that budding XNA developers will never get their hands on the Kinect. The spokesman acknowledged that Microsoft would "consider" the possibility for the future, though he added that "no plans can be confirmed at this time."

Here's hoping Indie devs get Kinect support sooner rather than later. The creative possibilities are definitely there and, besides, where else would we get Kinect-enabled fart simulators now that support for Fable 3 has been delayed?
Kinect-enabled XBL Indie Games still up in the air originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 05 Aug 2010 12:25:00 EST.
